Management Accountant

Full-Time · Commercial Team · Newcastle (UK)

The Role

At SoPost, we’re on a mission to build the most powerful product sampling platform in the world.

Our technology enables many of the world’s most recognisable brands to run highly effective product sampling campaigns online. Our clients (‘Brand Partners’ as we refer to them) come from a broad range of different categories from cosmetics and fragrance, to food and beverage.

Founded in 2012, SoPost now employs nearly 50 people across three hubs: Our technology team of software engineers and UX/UI designers, as well as central functions like finance and HR are based in Newcastle (United Kingdom), while our commercial and partnership teams are located in both London and New York (USA). We are active in 15 major markets across the UK, EMEA and North America.

Our growth trajectory has been significant and we have received recognition for our growth from multiple institutions including in 2020 being ranked in the top 50 of the Sunday Times Tech Track 100. While we know we have come a long way, our ambition extends well beyond where we are now and we’re looking for amazing people to help us achieve it.

As Management Accountant at SoPost, you will be fully immersed in all elements of the business. The successful candidate will be involved in a broad range of financial and commercial activities from managing the nuts and bolts of our financial reporting through to commercial analysis, pricing and new business support.

The role will grow as the company grows and we are looking for an individual from any background who can demonstrate a desire to learn, do the basics brilliantly and has the enthusiasm and ambition to build their experience over time to become an invaluable part of the team at SoPost.

Reporting into our Chief Financial Officer, you will be the first hire in a newly created finance function. You will take on many of the tasks currently carried out by the CFO who will be on hand to guide and coach you as you progress. The core responsibilities can be divided into four main areas:

Management & Statutory Reporting

Financial Control

Commercial Analysis

Special Projects

We are looking for a team player, with entrepreneurial spirit and good sense of humour. The successful candidate should have a clear desire to challenge themselves and progress within SoPost.

We are ideally looking for a qualified accountant, or someone close to qualification, either from a practise background within audit, corporate finance or transaction support or have generalist finance experience from working in an SME environment.

  1. Ideally 1-2 years post qualification experience with CIMA, ACCA or ACA
  2. Excellent accounting knowledge and technical skills
  3. High level of numeracy and ability to present financial analysis clearly, concisely and most importantly… accurately.
  4. Demonstrable ability to adapt and take on new challenges.
  5. A relish for solving problems and providing practical solutions.
  6. Ability to show a continuous focus on learning and self development.
  7. Capable of working relatively autonomously but not afraid to ask questions.
  8. Excellent time management skills.
  9. Ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders.

Experience of working as a partner to or in an SME technology company would be advantageous but not essential to this position.
